Come on Mum – why can’t we go? Take off the £168 discount!

Glyn’s View, Snowdonia would be just the ticket for our Gravy Bone Christmas (it is going to be a Gravy Bone Christmas isn’t it – we have been MOSTLY good this year). What’s that Mum all the family are coming and there wouldn’t be room there? Well Polly puppy could sleep with us, so could little humans Bella, Emily and Matilda too. That only leaves nine more big humans and you could all bunk up together, like we do. No excuses now, that is sorted! What? Not on! A smaller family of humans would enjoy it more! Nobody could enjoy it more than us. OK, OK, we know when we are losing a battle and we don’t want to rock the boat for Santa’s GB visit. Here’s what we’ll all be missing though……………

Lottie is counting for Many Tears £1859 going their way

We have had all the gravy bones out to help Lottie do her counting. Mum said one gravy bone had to equal £100, how stupid is that? We think £1 should be one Gravy bone. Mum says that would mean there would be 1,859 gravy bones and our pocket money won’t cover it. We have asked if we can have commission for counting and Mum blew her top! She said we should remember how lucky we are to have a nice home and to think about all those dogs still waiting at Many Tears. Well we were only testing the water and gravy bones are always worth a spot of negotiating. We thought Mum would give us a raise – we didn’t want to short change our brothers and sisters down in Wales.

Rosie’s Stables Cottage favourite walk

I’m blogging on my own –it is very tiring! Lottie’s sulking because she has to have her teeth done and Nellie isn’t on top form at the moment, so it is all down to me.

The only thing I want to tell you about is my best ever walk. It is my best ever walk everyday – I’m that lucky! That is unless I am at one of our cottages and then I don’t miss it ‘cos there’s the sea!

The best way to tell you about the walk is just to show you all the pictures Dad took yesterday. There were lots of sniffs, maybe our guests left me some messages but I was too excited to linger long enough to read them all. Now I need a snooze because there is no fun in blogging on your own zzzzzzzzzz

We have all got a warm fuzzy feeling

Two brilliant things have happened recently. The first one is just so nice for us. We’ve got a little friend called Heather, who leaves us messages when she stays in Grace Cottage and her Mum and Dad have adopted a companion for her to play with. She is called Lily and she was brought over from Ireland to Many Tears by our heroine Sylvia. She was a poor terrified little thing and only a baby but it turned out she was having puppies herself. That meant that she went to a lovely experienced fosterer in Southend on Sea to have her pups. All didn’t go too well for her and only one little (big one really) survived. Lily hasn’t had much luck in her life up ‘til now but boy, oh boy, has she dropped lucky now! She will get to run on the beach and have lots of cuddles and treats and friends and the list goes on and on. Her new Mum and Dad drove 850 miles round trip to collect her – that’s dedication for you but we know that all your Mums and Dads are just as dedicated to your happiness too – ‘AINT WE LUCKY?!

lil

The second thing that makes us feel good is that we managed to get Mum to do the accounts and she has sent over £2000 to our chums at Many Tears. We have made sure that there is enough left for treats and our Burns so that is all good. So tired now, we’ve just managed to keep awake after playing with Ash (more about that anon)zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Whoo whhoo sheep poo

Mum says that this is one of our most unappealing habits and she has eyes in the back of her head when it comes to catching us about to indulge our particular gourmet delight. Her pet hate is when Nellie manages to carry a bit home! Come on chums, back us up here. We just can’t see the problem. It doesn’t smell as bad as tripe and it is vegetarian and it is nicer than rabbit poo and it is readily available and if only Mum would realise the saving in dog food, if she would only let us tuck in, she might change her mind. Anyway, we didn’t manage even a small aperitif today and we are particularly annoyed that she is making us blog before dinner.
Mum has been getting up early here at Glyn’s View, so we have had to go out for a wee but she has been really mean and made us wait until 8 o’clock for our breakfast. It is totally unfair but we do snooze the time away and Mum says it would just be a long time until dinner if we had breakfast at 5 am. We could have a snack though to tide us over couldn’t we?

001

We’ve had some men in the cottage. Paul the plumber (all hail the gravy bone king), Vinnie and Aled. We lost the cowl in the high winds and they have replaced it. Dad says the fire won’t sound so loud now. They have also fixed the bath handle which came off in our guest’s hand. Mum says it couldn’t have been connected properly but Vinnie had a great idea on how to do it. They have also done something in the shower room which we hope will sort out the little damp patch. We were good girls and didn’t run off (even when those hills called to us) when they left the gate open and we didn’t get in the way, so we had some carrot and broccoli as well as our GB’s and a bit of chicken too.

bluebells1

We had a great trip through Bedgelert (where the sad story of the brave Gelert is commemorated by his statue). Did you know that Gelert saved the great Lord’s son from a wolf but the Lord thought Gelert had killed his son so killed the wonderful dog. The lord is said never to have smiled again once he realised his mistake. We are the most loyal animals in the world aren’t we? You would think extra Gravy Bones would go some way to rewarding us – never mind our waist lines! We went further to Llandwrog and the sea. That old camera was much in use and we had to wait around quite a bit. Mum and Dad like flowers – Mum especially and they loved the sea pinks along the beach. Dad loved the hill fort and ran up it while Mum gave us a drink. We could have done that too if he’d asked.

Speaking of flowers, the Bluebells are coming out in Cwm Penmachno and here at the head of the valley, Mum and Dad say we have a great show. The Glasgwm (the next valley to us ) is very nice to sniff in but of course, we have to keep stopping with that stupid camera because it is full of Bluebells. We are definitely NOT interested in them, or the Cuckoo Flowers on our verge, or the Primroses, or the Orange Tip Butterflies blah, blah, blah. We just think that scents should be foxy, doggy, pooey, carriony, deery, ottery and altogether disreputable, not flowery – although we quite Stinking Iris it smells of rotting beef. Yummee!

002

Well, we have been lucky ‘cos we have had our little top dog with us and she brought Polly puppy with her. Polly can be a bit of a pain and Nellie doesn’t like her one bit but we do get to do nice things with her and she is getting better and better at leaving us alone when we want to snooze. We didn’t have a lovely early life like she has ‘cos we are puppy farm girls, so we haven’t any happy memories until we came to live with Mum and Dad. I know, we wouldn’t remember anyway (according to Cesar) but Mum isn’t convinced. There are some things (and some people) that really spook us still, even after 6 years of doggy heaven.

Back to work for Mum and Dad and lots of lovely Derbyshire walks for us – no sheep poo but fantastic FOX. Got to get some shuteye so we are fresh for the ritual rolling – can’t wait to perfume our necks. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Our Great Big Scottish Adventure

You could have one at the end of June now 28th now available!
Rosie here. I’m blogging on my own because the terrierists are on strike. They say their legs are 5 centimetres (or 2 inches in old money) shorter from all the walking we have been doing. I am not in the least tired and relishing having centre stage for a change. Generally Lottie hogs the limelight (and the warm bit on Mum’s computer) all of the time. Well chums, we’ve been to another cottage ‘cos Mum went and booked Grace Cottage and then managed to get the week off. We had a great week in Perthshire and made a few ‘mountain dog’ friends and it only rained a bit and when it did we just couldn’t get Mum to stop taking photos and get on with our walk.

065

I’m a great traveller (so are the little ones) but it was nice not to be in the car for nine hours for once and we did arrive at Grace Cottage in daylight and we know when we start on the pass because, not only are there great sniffs of deer and otter and whiffy fox but Mum ALWAYS has to stop with that blooming, boring camera.

045

One of my very most amazing walks (where I saw that great big stag)is to the mountain bothy at Craig. This used to be the most remote youth hostel in Britain but sadly no-one wanted to man it anymore. We’ve met a succession of students and a few locals in the summer there but the long walk in and the isolated position (with no ‘phone, electricity etc.)Has just proved too difficult for keeping it open (so Mum says anyway). Given enough gravy bones, I’m sure I could learn to look after it. I think we must have done this walk hundreds of times and that is what Nellie and Lottie are moaning about. Actually they think that if Mum feels sorry for them they may get more you know whats; they didn’t mind a bit on the walks. Here they are at the halfway point where you get a view of Red Point

The Coire mic Nobul walk comes a very close second on my OS adventure and nose map. Pine Marten have an amazing whiff, like a Ferret x Fox and they love the –you’ve guessed it – Pines. We’ve seen them but Mum hasn’t been quick enough with the camera but the fabulous Highland photographer Steve Carter has

We haven’t been to Slaggan Bay for a while. Last time we took the 4WD down and you can still do that but it is so much nicer to walk and play in the Lochans and get new sniffs. It’s 10½km return (or 6½ miles in old money)and there’s a fantastic beach to romp on when you get there. Mum says there’s an evocative ruined village there and you can’t help but think of the hard life of the inhabitants. We couldn’t care less, it’s a dogs life hanging around while our carers talk history. They won’t let us run off to the beach on our own – that’s Nellies fault ‘cos she’s deaf and she won’t come away from dead crabs, fish etc. I am not entirely sure that she isn’t faking because when the GV box comes out she seems to know and come running. Dad is a bit sceptical too but Mum defends her and says she can smell them.

Just think of your Mum’s and Dad’s seeing this from the top of the pass (sorry about the camera stuff) and you getting the sniffs arriving at Grace Cottage. You can do this on our cancellation week 28th June and think of all that daylight for running and swimming in the loch makes me tired just thinking about it zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Making a break for it

Please don’t think we have forgotten the ‘getting more treats’ strategy. Norfolk beaches are just the best for employing our run off when called tactics. Miles and miles of sand and pools warmed in the sun to run in and out of and some sand dunes and some breakwaters to sniff out messages. It is quite easy to get carried away with joy overload anyway, so we aren’t finding being naughty very hard. Rosie is the fastest runner, just ‘cos she’s the biggest and has the longest legs but us little uns can move too you know.

043

There are bits where we have to be on the lead but hey, that’s fine, gives us a chance to catch our breath. Mum and Dad have things they put up to their eyes and stand still with. What on earth that is about goodness knows. Apparently they can see things a long way off, so what – we can smell things for miles – especially long deceased things! Anyway Mum says here’s what you can see and she has the pictures to prove it. Don’t know how the spaniel got in there – he definitely isn’t on his lead!

006

S’pose you all want to know how the new treat regime is going don’t you? Well let us tell you it ‘aint looking good! Nellie is deaf, so she hasn’t taken part at all and as I’m blogging (you would think that I would be on the receiving end of a bonus) I haven’t been very good at it. Rosie has taken up the gauntlet and run with it so to speak but has it done us any good? Abso-blooming-lutely not! Treats have been withdrawn (except from goody two shoes Nellie) until further notice and until Rosie has learned to behave. She KNOWS how to behave, it was all in vain and she is threatened with lead walking all the time if she makes a break for it again.

Sea, sand, mountains and money for Many Tears

Last month was just the BEST. We have had Polly puppy staying with us at Glyn’s View in Snowdonia. She has never been to the seaside, so it was really funny to see her race around on Black Rock Sands, although Rosie got a bit tired of all the jumping around! Polly gets training treats, so what does that mean? Yes, you’ve got it – WE get training treats too! We are ever so good at sitting and staying and close and away and heel, so it is a doddle to get ‘em.

016

We’ve had our little top dog with us too. You should just see her making Polly sit and wait for her food – AWESOME! We do that not very well. Lottie lets us down and turns into circus dog, dancing backwards following the dish and Dad laughs so much that we don’t have to wait. Little Bella puts her hands on her hips and gives us a look that says we are taking liberties. Glad we don’t live with Polly puppy, ‘cos we would always have to behave properly and we think we are old enough to be cut a little slack. Mum says it’s nice to see Polly calm and kept under control. Well, Rosie taught Bella all she knew about good behaviour and how to understand dogs, just to get her trained to give us our gravy bones. She’s good at that but she seems to have gone a bit over the top with discipline (sorry Polly) xx

We have been having a bit of a conflab. Mum and Dad don’t give us many treats when we are out ‘cos we are ‘trained’, so we’ve got to thinking that we ought to have a plan of strategy to take forward when we don’t have Polly on the next holiday. Lottie is our most sneaky pack member and she thinks that if we start hanging about before we go to heel and rushing off when we should be staying, Mum will keep her pocket full of treats to make us remember our manners. Going to give it a go when we are at Milestone Barn. This is us practising we’ll keep you posted…….

013

Oh, Llandudno beach is pretty good. You can go on the main part of the beach and the pier in the winter but you have to go on the far end in the summer, away from the town. It is very grand and clean and the facades of the buildings along the front are amazing. We can walk on our leads there all year but we prefer it in the winter when it is quieter. It’s quiet along the doggy bit in the Summer too but there aren’t any shops. Now that is no problem for Dad and Mum says she doesn’t mind ‘cos we are on holiday but we think there might have been a bit of a twitch in her eye when she said it. She really likes the pier and our Bella was very lucky on the amusements. We slipped her a list for her to spend her winnings on, headed GRAVY BONES of course.

We’ve been up in the slate quarry to see the ruined village and had a picnic on the big flat stone in the river above the waterfall. Mum shared her blackcurrant pie with us and then she found a few little treats in her pocket. Those pesky humans of ours over the mountain pass. This is awesome and so exciting. There are lots of fantastic ledges to jump up and down on and there are some great water play areas but it was a bit too cold. This is Mum and Dad’s favourite view of Blaen y Cwm.

018

We’ve been to Bodnant gardens and made a new friend – Maisie the little Dachshund. In winter we can go to the gardens most days but in summer it’s only one day a week, so you’ll have to plan to get there.

bod mais

We’ve listened to the wind whistling round and been snug in front of the lovely Morso and we’ve had lots of cuddles from our little pack leader. We don’t know how you feel about winter holidays but we just love them! Brisk walks (and sometimes we get to wear lovely coats), plenty of sticks to chase and chew – though Mum doesn’t like this. Polly puppy runs off with them and we have to laugh when she ignores Mum and races about with a big one. You have to watch it though ‘cos she can give you quite a whack when she runs into you. Why are puppies clumsy?!?
Mum and Dad are really pleased with the new electric radiators. The cottage is really warm and cosy even when it is frosty outside. Nellie loves the frosty grass; she just rolls around on her back, wriggling and squirming. We don’t know why she does this but she is very happy when she does. She loves Glyn’s View garden anyway, the first thing she does when we get here is chase all around the outside about ten times. We are too busy getting our messages to be bothered but she is funny with her ducking and weaving and too-ing and fro-ing.

012

We have been over to Newborough on Anglesey and to Harlech. We didn’t go to Caenarfon because dogs aren’t allowed in the castle and all the humans wanted to see it. We sulked when they came back for all of three minutes but the rattle of Burns in our bowls soon brought us round. Polly stays in her cage (which she loves) ‘cos she is a Labrador and a puppy and we all know that chewing can be the greatest pastime in the world for her. We got a walk to the ruin in the morning but we ‘aint going nowhere until those food bowls have appeared – even if we have to go a walk in the dark.
One of our favourite ever walk is up Snowdon. We didn’t get to the top this time because there was snow and we were a bit late starting and Mum was being a wimp ‘cos she had a bit of a cough. Humans are really very fragile aren’t they? We never think about not feeling well or tired when we are on a walk – we could go on for ever and we go twice as far with all the checking out in front. Mum and Dad had to keep stopping didn’t they to look at the view? This is quite annoying really and it is no wonder we take a long time to get anywhere.

It was very boring one day because Mum decided that she was going to ‘do’ the main bedroom floor. We don’t go up there, so we have no interest whatsoever. She said that when the refurbishments were being done a lot of the debris got walked into the floor by mistake and it really needed to be sorted out. Dad took us out and so that wasn’t bad but we didn’t get a long walk and he forgot to throw the ball for Rosie. We aren’t going to sulk because truth be told, we were pretty whacked out and needed a bit of a rest.

Well, we hope you are enjoying the warmer weather. We have had a good walk but there’s a lot of little twigs on the ground from the gales and us two little ones are picking loads up on our coats. Time for a trim we think Mum………….
Now all this blogging has made us very tired but there’s just one more thing to tell you. Mum explained to us why our Many Tears Animal Rescue brothers and sisters need treats more than we do and even though it really hurts to see treats going somewhere else, we have been helping tot up rather than trying to sabotage the payment. Now we hope you all understand that it won’t make any difference to the treats we leave you for your holiday, so don’t worry but you can all feel very proud of your Mums and Dads for helping. This is our total (Lottie did most of the sums but Mum has checked her in case she slipped a bit in the Gravy Bones Account anyway).
£1006 winging its way to Sylvia and the Heroes in Llanelli today!
NOW it is really time for that snoozzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The travelling woofters

Down and dirty in Dorset this week. Gosh, it has been very squelchy under paws. We don’t mind and ‘cos Clematis Cottage has a tiled floor, Mum and Dad don’t mind either! It hasn’t rained much this week and we have had some really, really good walks and sniffs. It hasn’t been too windy either, so those sniffs haven’t blown away. We have met some excellent friends on the beaches and in the cafes and they have given us some pin ups which we will show you soon.

Mum has been watching Chris Packham – down Mum (she is so fickle, we thought Cesar was her favourite) and now she thinks we have to play games with our Gravy Bones. Get ’em out from under those plastic cups Mum, we are far too spoiled to mess about. We’ll sit and maybe give a paw, or high five but make us wait and cover our eyes and we will withdraw all cuddles in protest.

This is a short blog ‘cos we have got to check out Steve who is coming to paint all of Clematis Cottage next week. We are not at all happy to go home because he promised to bring us some you know whats. We thought we might stage a ‘sit in’ until Mum said the fire wouldn’t be lit and she was taking our Burns home and our beds and our brushes and the box of GB’s. It’s just not worth the effort when we get bullied and nobody takes us seriously.

We are going to conserve our energy for our next post with lots of pictures from our Dorset holiday, so zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
